Teladoc Launches TeladocConnect

Teladoc Launches TeladocConnect, Helping Physicians Improve Patient Access and Address Healthcare Challenges

Physician service to be introduced at HIMSS12, demonstrations at booth 13328

DALLAS, Feb. 16, 2012 – Teladoc, the nation’s first and largest telehealth provider, will unveil its new telehealth solution for physicians – TeladocConnect – at the 2012 Annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition (HIMSS12) being held Feb. 20-24 at the Las Vegas Venetian Sands Expo Center, booth 13328.

TeladocConnect allows physicians to connect with patients 24/7 via telephone or secure online video. If a patient’s regular physician is unavailable, the consultation request is directed to Teladoc’s network of U.S.-based, board-certified physicians, which acts as an extension of the physician’s practice.

“Since its inception, Teladoc has provided patients with access to U.S.-based, board-certified physicians, 24/7 via telephone or secure online video to resolve many medical conditions when the individual’s primary care physician is not available,” said Jason Gorevic, Teladoc’s chief executive officer. “TeladocConnect wraps around a physician’s practice, providing patients with around-the-clock care and allowing physicians to offer a higher level of personal service at a time when demand is overwhelming resources. This new offering helps to solve some of the greatest challenges healthcare faces today, including access, patient volume and reimbursement challenges.”

Physician practices, distribution partners and health plans can sign up for TeladocConnect. The service allows physician reimbursement for consults and generates an additional revenue stream for partners and physicians.

TeladocConnect provides an affordable alternative to costly urgent care and emergency room visits, and offers physicians the flexibility to deliver consultations at any time from any location with minimal administrative overhead. When patients request a consultation with their primary care physician, the physician is alerted and given the opportunity to respond. If the physician is unavailable, the consult request is routed to the Teladoc physician network, providing cross-coverage care for patients when needed.

Each Teladoc consultation includes a comprehensive review of a patient’s electronic health record. If a Teladoc physician performs the consultation, the consultation record is provided to the patient’s primary care physician, ensuring continuity of care.

“As wait times to see a physician increase, patients are turning to expensive alternatives such as the emergency room,” said Gorevic. “TeladocConnect provides a solution that decreases wait times and costs for the patient, physician and health plans. It helps physicians deliver 24/7 quality care, and adds a level of flexibility and accessibility to healthcare that would otherwise require a significant capital investment.”

At HIMSS12, TeladocConnect demonstrations will be conducted at booth 13328.
