ATA partners with XPRIZE to promote innovation in telemedicine

This announcement came out earlier this week. For those who are not familiar with ATA or XPRIZE, here is a brief summary:

The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) has become an official partner of XPRIZE regarding the $10 million Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE and $2.5 million Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE. Both competitions are an effort to capture the imagination of the public, spur innovation, and accelerate the rate of positive change in accessing and delivering healthcare.

The Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE is a 3.5-year global competition that will award $10 million to teams that develop a consumer-friendly device capable of diagnosing a set of 15 conditions and capturing 5 vital metrics for health. The $2.25 million Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE is two global competitions to develop sensing technologies that capture meaningful data about a consumer’s health status, surrounding environment and risk of developing a health condition. Nanobiosym Health RADAR was awarded the $520,000 Grand Prize for Competition #1 in October 2013. Registration for Competition #2 is currently open.
