"Hybrid" EHR Certification

Early Tuesday morning, June 26, 2012, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) will release Version 2.1 of the Certified Health IT Product List (CHPL). This CHPL "dot release" introduces new and improved features. The most notable enhancement is the new functionality capable of supporting “Hybrid” Certification.

"Hybrid" Certification capability was developed to allow the generation of a CMS EHR Certification ID by eligible professionals (EPs) who practice in both ambulatory and inpatient settings using a combination of EHR technology certified separately for each of these settings. The CMS EHR Certification ID is required for attestation in the CMS EHR Incentive Program.

CHPL release 2.1 also includes navigation and search improvements including:

  • Improved return to search functionality
  • Improved cart functionality
  • Improved product record display
  • Improved product record search

To learn more about the new features, please visit the CHPL at http://www.healthit.gov/chpl.

ONC has also published a new entry about “Hybrid” Certification on the Regulations FAQ site located at:
