MEDecision Receives URAC Accreditation

I admit that I had never heard of URAC in medical school. However, I became very familiar with URAC when I was working at HealthAtoZ (now myOptumHealth, a UnitedHealthcare Company). Here's the press release about MEDecision receiving URAC accreditation:

MEDecision Receives URAC Accreditation

Company’s Case, Disease Management Programs and Health Content Recognized by Distinguished Healthcare Quality Standards Organization

WAYNE, Pa. — October 13, 2010 — MEDecision, Inc., a leading provider of collaborative healthcare management solutions, today announced that it has been awarded accreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based healthcare accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the healthcare industry. MEDecision has received accreditation for meeting URAC’s Vendor Disease Management, Vendor Case Management, and Health Content Provider standards.

For more than 20 years, MEDecision’s ongoing vision has been to improve the collaboration between patients, payers and providers by providing mutual access to the information these stakeholders rely on to enable the best clinical decisions and improve health outcomes.

“This honor is a significant achievement for MEDecision,” said Andrew P. Schuyler, MD, the company’s executive vice president and chief medical officer. “We are strongly committed to quality and clinical integrity, and URAC accreditation validates this. It symbolizes to the market that our products and services have been measured against established national benchmarks and have successfully undergone rigorous evaluation by a trusted, independent accrediting body.”

“MEDecision should be commended for meeting strict quality standards,” said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. “It is critically important for healthcare to make a commitment to quality and accountability. URAC accreditation is a demonstration of that commitment.”

The URAC accreditation process demonstrates a commitment to quality services and serves as a framework to improve business processes through benchmarking organizations against nationally recognized standards. The URAC standards development process is consensus driven, with hundreds of industry experts serving as volunteers to revise appropriate industry benchmarks.

“URAC accreditation recognizes the quality of MEDecision’s case and disease management solutions, health content and organizational discipline,” Schuyler said. “MEDecision health plan customers will now be assisted when seeking their own URAC accreditations. Our customers have yet another important reason to be confident in their selection of MEDecision’s trusted solutions.”
